Behind the Scenes
I am traveling through airports as I write these sentences. During one layover, I watched a large extended family with several small children waiting to board a plane to visit Disney World. The kids were getting bored because waiting in an airport eventually grows tedious, especially when you are tired, hungry and cranky. When it came time to board the plane, however, the children perked up because the thought of having fun at Disney World with the rides, food, and Disney characters filled them with hopeful anticipation. They trusted in the promises of their parents that they would soon arrive at a place where they would experience a fantastic time.
At times, God calls all of us to be like children when it comes to accepting and hoping in the Kingdom of God. When we become Christ followers, a new world of hope and power become available to us. Like children trusting in their parents, God wants us to trust Him. God promises us many blessings through following Jesus Christ including a healed relationship with Himself, the power of his Spirit inside of us as we face the struggles of this world, a restoration of ourselves, and a healing of this world. Ultimately, we have the promise that when our lives are over, we will live with Jesus forever as our Lord.
God is faithful. Has an earthly parent ever let you down? God will not. God’s promises are never broken. Ever been betrayed by friend or spouse? Ever been cheated by a business? God will never betray or cheat you. The Bible refers to Jesus Christ as Immanuel which means “God with us.” God is so faithful that He sent His Son to die for us so that we could be with Him forever. God is so faithful that He sends His Spirit to fill us and empower us to live the way God wants us to live. No matter how bad the day gets or how much anxiety and despair torments our soul at night, God is faithful, and His arms are always wrapped around us.
Make it Real
Take some time and go through your Bible and make note of the promises made by God. Be sure to read them in context. Some promises are for specific people or for the nation of Israel, but God makes many promises for followers of Christ. Pray over these promises. Claim these promises.
Keep a spiritual journal (journals are not for teenage girls fellas!) and keep track of prayers and
We will go through troubles and heartache in this life. Some promises may take years to be fulfilled. The Christian life is hard. Be steadfast and persevere. Get down on your knees and take your challenges to God. Remember He works out all things according to His perfect plan. Trust Him and put your hope in Him.
